Longwell Green (2) v Fry Cub Colts U13 (5)
U13s Cup
September 25, 2005
Longwell Green came from a
defeat last week with a well organised fighting spirit. They attacked
constantly from the kickoff, with good pressure, some piercing through balls and
some excellent long range shooting.
Fry’s seemed shocked at
the onslaught and the few chances they had, such as a
promising through pass by John Cotgrieve,
was easily dealt with by the Longwell Green midfield and defence.
In the 8th
minute Longwell Green went one up when their striker latched on to yet another
pass and slotted the ball past Tom Rose in the Fry’s net.
Fry’s continued the first
half by giving the ball away too easily and not capitalising on the few chances
that they did have.
Just before half time,
Longwell Green were awarded a free kick just outside the Fry’s area, but their
well struck long range effort was well saved by Tom Rose.
Half time saw Fry’s make five
changes to their line up with the introduction of Harry Pople, Dan Buley, Josh Brooks,
Ryan Davis and Tom Hooper. This paid off two minutes into the second half when
Dan Buley got the ball just outside of the area and drilled the ball low into
the bottom corner of the net. 1-1 and Fry’s were back in the game.
Straight from the kick off,
Fry’s attacked again and Ryan Ellett made it 2-1 with another low shot past the
diving keeper. Fry’s now started to show their strength but their first touches
and control were still letting them down.
In the 43rd minute
Jack Baber thumped a free kick up field from his own half, for
Ryan Ellett
to latch on to and score his second, making it 3-1 to Fry’s.
Longwell Green continued
to battle and brought the score back to 3-2 when a fierce shot was too strong
for the diving Rose.
The crowd were getting
nervous with chances again being missed by the Fry’s attack, until Dan Buley
got his second with a turn in the box and delicate chip over the keeper.
Fry’s put the game beyond
reach for Longwell Green when some good midfield play from Skinner and Thomas pushed
the ball out to Harry Pople on the right wing who whipped the ball in for Ryan
Ellett to side foot the ball into the net to secure his hatrick.
